Background
Dwight Williams is principal nuclear physicist in the Defense Intelligence Agency’s Science and Technology Brain Trust within the Directorate for Measurements and Signatures Intelligence and Technical Collection. Dr. Williams earned a BS and an MS in nuclear engineering from North Carolina State University and a PhD in nuclear engineering from the University of Maryland.
Interests
Williams’ research interests include environmental radioactivity, radiation detection and measurement, counterproliferation technologies, and national security. In his current work, he is actively involved in defense, intelligence community (IC), and research and development activities, working with the White House on a national nuclear research strategy and regularly briefing members of Congress.
As an MLK visiting professor, Williams had a dual appointment in the Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering and the Security Studies Program in the Department of Political Science. His expertise in environmental radioactivity and monitoring nuclear weapons was the subject of a talk and a paper. Williams co-taught Principles of Nuclear Radiation Measurement and Protection, a lecture/lab course that aims to familiarize students with varying types of radiation, radiation interactions with matter, and radiation detection/protection.
